Welcome to the O.R.

This new site redesign is my operating room. The surgical theme I’m going with is useful because it puts me in the right mindset to do hand drawn animation.

Animation requires a steady hand, maximum concentration, and precise actions. The big difference being if I need to take a 10 minute break, nobody’s gonna bleed out on the table.

Since we're metaphoring, I guess I can say I’ve been a resident at animation studios since the early 90’s. The first decade of my career I soaked up as much knowledge as I could at Walt Disney Studios. Not a shabby place to learn the fundamentals.

Most of the projects you see on this site are what I call volunteer patients (self initiated assignments). If you’re an animation lover and you like metaphors, scrub in. Slip on a gown, snap on some gloves and belly up to the table.

I might ask you to hand me a scalpel.

Be sure to read through the gallery of images in the ‘behind the scrubs’ section. There, you’ll find a few interesting insights from each project.  I’m a big believer in pre production. I like when everybody involved visually understands what the objective of each spot, scene, or sequence is - before one frame of animation starts. That’s when the real clock starts ticking.

Check back often, as I’m going to attempt to do one shot per week. If it’s good enough, I’ll post it on the projects page with some storytelling about my trials and tribulations.

Cheers!

Welcome to the O.R.

What's the O.R.?

The surgical theme I’m going with is useful because it puts me in the

right mindset to do hand -drawn animation.

Animation requires a steady hand, maximum concentration, and precise actions. The big difference is that if I need to take a 10-minute break, nobody will bleed out on the table.

Since we're 'metaphor-sizing', I can say I’ve been a 'resident' at animation studios since the early ’90s.

During the first decade of my career, I soaked up as much knowledge as I could at Walt Disney Studios. Not a shabby place to learn the fundamentals!
